WOMEN'S HEALTH & PELVIC WELLNESS
HEALTH & WELLNESS
Emily Whalen, Doctor of Physical Therapy
I am a physical therapist with specialized training in the field of pelvic health, pregnancy, post-partum care, and orthopedic management.
I'm a proud employee of UCLA Health since 2010 where I have had the opportunity for mentorship and networking within the pelvic health, urology, obstetric/gynecology, and colorectal disciplines.
Part-time faculty at my alma mater, Mount St. Mary's University, I enjoy teaching the Pelvic Health curriculum to future physical therapists.
As a mom (to three boys!) I myself can relate to my clients who are pregnant, post-partum, and raising children.
It is my pleasure to facilitate healing, provide education, and promote wellness for those with pelvic health concerns.
WHERE IS MY PELVIC FLOOR?
Our pelvic floor is an important group of muscles at the base of our pelvis that work to support the pelvic organs, maintain continence (bladder and bowels), and facilitate sexual activity.
Pelvic floor rehabilitation can be helpful to those with urinary incontinence, fecal/gas incontinence, pelvic pain syndromes (vaginismus, vulvodynia, dyspareunia, interstitial cystitis, bladder pain, endometriosis), pregnancy, post-partum (diastasis recti), and more.
WILL INSURANCE COVER MY VISIT?
Upon request, clients will be provided with a super-bill (a specialized receipt) which may be submitted directly to your insurance company for reimbursement of out-of-network provider benefits.
For clients who prefer to utilize their in-network insurance benefits, I see patients on Mondays & Wednesdays at UCLA Health in Santa Monica. Please call 310-794-1323 to schedule.
In the age of on-demand modern conveniences, I have built my practice to make things as easy as possible for my clients. That is, my clinic comes to you - to your home, office, or location of choice.
Client location visits are currently available in the South Bay (Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, El Segundo, Redondo Beach).
Partnering with a physical therapy office in Manhattan Beach, I can provide clinic space upon request. Additionally, patients may choose to be seen at UCLA Health in Santa Monica.
Pelvic health and wellness begins with a thorough discussion of a patient's symptoms and medical history. Therapeutic activities, functional strengthening, pelvic floor exercises, and patient education can be done virtually, allowing me to connect with and help patients anywhere in the world. Virtual visits can serve as the primary mode of treatment, and when needed can be a bridge to in person visits.
